Make the stock come off inside the visit
Ask to see a consult recorded in the demo and watch whether the vaccine, the syringe and the dispensed course leave the shelf as part of it. If stock is a separate screen somebody visits later, it will be visited later, which means it will not be visited, and the count will be wrong within a month of go-live.
Test expiry and batch on a real vaccine
Put a real vaccine in with a batch number and a short expiry and see whether the system warns you before it is dispensed and whether the batch lands on the patient record. This is the one part of stock that is not just money, and a system that cannot do it is not a veterinary system.
Ask what happens to controlled items
Every jurisdiction handles controlled drugs differently and no software absolves you of the register you are required to keep. Ask each vendor plainly what the system does and does not do here, and write the answer down: it is the question most likely to be answered vaguely in a demo.
