The Patientvo workspace, Sheets and forms tab, showing a saved comparison called Practice system comparison, three systems over 36 months, filed against the patient Biscuit Alvarez and the annual health check visit. Its inputs read 3 systems, 3 vets, 6 other staff, $45 per user, $1,200 migration, 2 training days at $900, 36 month term; its outputs read 9 seats, $405 a month, $3,000 to switch, $7,860 year one, $17,580 whole term and $162.78 per vet per month.
Patientvo Pro keeps the comparison against the practice, so next year's review starts from this year's figures rather than from a blank sheet.

This is a sheet for setting the types of veterinary software programs against each other, the arithmetic a practice does on the back of a quote the night before it has to decide. Broadly there are four kinds on offer: the practice information management system that holds clients, patients, the book, notes, stock and invoicing together; standalone clinical record products; communication and reminder tools; and point tools for one job. Whichever kinds are on your shortlist, the same arithmetic decides between them. Vets plus other staff is the seats every per-seat price gets multiplied by; seats times the quoted price is the monthly subscription; the migration quote plus the training days at your own day rate is what switching costs before a single month is paid; add them and you have year one and the whole term, and dividing the term figure by the months and the vets gives the one number that is comparable across every system on the list. Every figure is yours, including the per-seat price: this site publishes no vendor's price and ranks no system. Free, on the page, no account; the paid plan keeps the comparison against the practice so next year's review starts from this year's figures.

What practices ask about Types of veterinary software programs

Why does the sheet ask for training days and a day rate?

Because training is paid for twice: once to the vendor and once in the hours your own people are not seeing patients. The second cost is usually the larger one and it never appears on a quote, so the sheet asks for it separately and puts it in the switching figure.

Does the sheet tell me which system to buy?

No. It tells you what each one costs your practice over the term you will actually keep it, from the quotes you were given. Which one to buy also depends on the things you tested in the demo, and this site ranks nothing and takes no commission from anyone.

Why compare over 36 months rather than a year?

Because migration and training are paid once and a practice keeps a records system far longer than a year, so a one-year figure flatters whichever system charges most for switching. Change the term to whatever you honestly expect and the comparison changes with it.

Which is the best veterinary software?

There is no answer to that question that is not somebody's advertising, which is why this sheet does not try to give one. The answerable question is which system on your shortlist costs least over the term you will actually keep it, for the seats you actually have, and that is arithmetic on your own quotes. We take no commission from any vendor and publish no scoring table.
